Dorothy Elizabeth Block, age 98, of Monroe passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on October 8, 1921, the daughter of Jesse and Hilda (Ruegsegger) Beach in Monroe. Dorothy attended Enterprise Country School and was a 1939 graduate of Monroe High School. She was united in marriage to Roy Albert Block on November 24, 1943 in Monroe.
Dorothy worked alongside her husband on their dairy farm in Jordan Township for 28 years and in Cadiz Township for 33 years. She enjoyed sewing, baking, and gardening. She was also a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Hannah Circle, and was past 4-H member and leader. Dorothy made quilts for all her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Beverly (Richard) Wehinger of Monroe and Gerald (LaVonne) Block of Poulsvo, WA; daughter-in-law, Linda Block of Monroe; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, Rolland Beach and Nathan (Mary) Beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; son, Russell Block; two sisters, Ella Burrington and Louise Wild and also twin sisters in infancy; and brother, Duane (Rose) Beach.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at St. John’s United Church of Christ with Reverend Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. A visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of service, at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ or Pleasant View Nursing Home.
