Joan “Jo” Davis, age 88, Monroe, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Aster Assisted Living, Monroe. Joan was born on November 22, 1931, the daughter of Harvey and Gladys (Hartwick) Andrews. She graduated from Juda High School in 1949 and attended North Central College. Joan and Robert Schilt were married on December 16, 1951 in the Juda EUB Church. After their marriage the couple farmed from 1951 to 1975 in Jefferson and Clarno Townships, moving to Monroe in 1975. They had been married 26 years when Bob passed away March 20, 1978. Joan worked at Equity Livestock Sales, Rural Insurance Company, the Monroe Moose Lodge and was a volunteer at St. Clare Hospital. She was a member of the Clarno Zion United Methodist Church, the Monroe Moose Lodge and the Countryettes Homemakers Club.
Joan married Delton Davis, May 8, 1987. After retirement they enjoyed years of fishing and entertaining family and friends at their place on Lake Wisconsin. Joan and Delton celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary before Delton’s passing, September 16, 2019.
Joan was a lover of life, willing to take on any project, always there to help family and friends. She was a woman of great optimism and faith and a wonderful example to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Joan is survived by her children, Tom Schilt, Deb (Pat) Davis, Ron (Loni) Schilt, Patti (Tom) Stauffacher all of Monroe. She is also survived by Delton’s children, Ann (Don) Smith of Monroe, Phil (Lynn) Davis of Benton, Pat (Deb) Davis of Monroe and Jill (Keith) Zimmerman of Middleton; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, a sister Phyllis (Russ) Bauman of Juda, and in-laws Dale (Katie) Davis and Betty Davis Borden. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son and daughter-in-law Jon (Tammy) Schilt; siblings LaVern (Barbara) Andrews and Elaine (Ed) Klema.
A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Clarno Zion United Methodist Church, W5292 County Road P, Monroe, with Pastor Inwha Shon officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Monroe Moose Lodge, 639 3rd Avenue. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, at a later date. Visitation will be Friday, February 28, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31st Avenue, Monroe, and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
