LeRoy R. Rasmussen, age 88 of Monroe, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. LeRoy was born on August 11, 1931 in Janesville, the son of LeRoy and Dorothy (Burdick) Rasmussen. He entered the U.S. Army on February 8, 1952, serving both overseas and in the United States until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1972. LeRoy married Anna M. Bayer on December 23, 1954 in Wuerzburg, Germany. The couple moved to Monroe in 1973. LeRoy worked for the Iroquois Foundry in Browntown and Hoffman Chemicals in Madison until retiring. He was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe, MENSA, and a former member of the Monroe Lions Club and V.F.W. Post #2312. LeRoy was an avid reader, loved classical music, was an accomplished cook, and had an unbridled love for his wife until she died on January 29, 2012.
He is survived by two sons, Robert W. (Diana) Rasmussen of Edgerton, WI, and Richard M. (Jennifer) Rasmussen of Palo Alto, CA; a daughter, Kirsten A. Rasmussen of Kalamazoo, MI; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Dameon), Amanda, Johnna, Adam, Christian, Timothy, Peter, and Oliver; two great grandchildren, Devyn and Maxine; a brother, George (Dorothy) Rasmussen of Bellevue, NE; and a sister-in-law, Inge (Earl) Brockman of Monroe.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke, Celebrant. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, February 8, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of mass at 1:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested in LeRoy’s name to the American Cancer Society or Green County Humane Society.
