Thomas J. Cox, age 77, of Monroe, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, after a brief illness. He was born on August 21, 1942, in Owatonna, MN, the son of Elverado and Coyla (Krueger) Cox. Thomas was a 1960 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1964 graduate of U.W. Whitewater.
Tom taught Elementary Physical Education for 33 years, in Manawa, WI; Highland Park, IL; U.S. Air Force Base, Tripoli, Libya, and Alexandria, VA.
Tom was an avid tennis player and an excellent basketball player in his younger years; he also liked to bike and continued biking through the rest of his life until one week ago.
Tom is survived by his brother, Charles Cox and wife Maria of Dallas, TX; nephews, Jeff and Greg Cox; niece, Ximena Bryce; sister-in-law, Oma Cox, and many cousins and friends. Tom was especially assisted by his cousin, Duane Bennett, in the last several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother David.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Cox officiating.
Burial will be at Pine Island, MN at a later date.
