The following incident occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2020:
Motor Vehicle Crash / OWI 5th Offense Arrest:
At approximately 6:43 p.m., Deputies, Green County EMS, and the Monroe Fire Department responded to the W7100 block of STH 81 in the Town of Monroe for a report of a two vehicle head on crash. Investigation revealed that Thomas L. Carothers, 56, Argyle, WI, was traveling westbound when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve in the roadway. The vehicle then crossed the center line and collided head on with a vehicle that was traveling westbound on STH 81. The westbound vehicle was found to be driven by Kimberly M. Lewis, 61, Monroe, WI. After the collision, both vehicles entered the north ditch where they both came to a rest. Lewis sustained non-life threatening injuries and she reported that she was wearing her seatbelt. Lewis’ vehicle sustained severe damage and the airbags deployed. Carothers sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Carothers reported that he was wearing his seatbelt. Carothers was transported by EMS to the Monroe Clinic Emergency Room. Carothers’ vehicle sustained severe damage and the airbags did not deploy. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Investigation resulted in Carothers being arrested for Operate While under the Influence (alcohol) 5th Offense. Carothers was cited for Operate Left of Center, Failure to Maintain Control of Vehicle, Operate after Suspension, Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, and Non-Registration of an Auto. Carothers was released pending a mandatory court appearance.
