On Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at approximately 6:12 a.m., the Green County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a one vehicle rollover crash, along STH 59, approximately .1 mile east of Greenbush Rd. just northeast of the City of Monroe. Deputies, along with Monroe Rural Fire Department and Green County EMS were dispatched to the scene.
Deputies located a badly damaged pickup truck and the body of an adult male several hundred feet from the highway in a field. Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle had been eastbound on STH 59, failed to negotiate a curve, left the highway and overturned. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle had not been wearing a safety belt and was ejected. Deputies believe that the crash occurred late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and that the scene was not visible until daylight. The Green County Coroner was called to the scene and the Green County Highway Department assisted by providing barricades to block the area during the crash investigation.
This incident was Green County’s first fatal crash of 2021. The victim’s name will likely be released late this afternoon after relatives have been notified.
