SSM Health Monroe Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) would like to recognize individuals for their participation in an emergency call that resulted in a life saved.
Recently there was a gentleman from Illinois in Monroe shopping when he struck a post in front of Dearth Motors. One of Monroe’s fire fighters, who is under the medication direction of Dr. Franz Keilhauer, ED provider, was working at Dearth and received notification of the accident.
He ran to the vehicle to find the unresponsive gentleman slumped over the wheel. He broke the window out and pulled the driver out to begin CPR. Another Monroe firefighter was driving by and stopped to help him. EMS was activated and the crew, additional firefighters and law enforcement responded.
The driver was resuscitated and transported to our ED. He was then taken to our Cath Lab where it was determined that he needed bypass surgery. Our team worked diligently to find him available care and he was transferred via ambulance to a hospital in Milwaukee.
The gentleman’s family recently reached out to share that he is home and doing well. They are so grateful for the responding personnel and our hospital for the ‘second chance at life’. He wanted to convey his thanks for the team members who cared for him with ‘overwhelming kindness and skill’.
Thank you to all the team members who assisted in his care!
