Estelle Marie Connors, age 93, of Monroe WI passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023 at SSM Hospice Home in Monroe. She was surrounded by loving family and an amazing group of friends.
Estelle was born in Waukegan, IL on April 24, 1930, daughter of Jerome and Helen Muth. She graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in Janesville, WI in 1951 as an RN. She soon met the love of her life, James Connors, and they married in Waukegan on May 24, 1952. Estelle and Jim then moved to Pompano Beach, Florida and began their life together. Estelle worked for 25 years at North Broward County Medical Center. For 23 of the 25 years she was the operating room supervisor. At the time of her retirement she was recognized system wide. She was credited with running the best O.R. in Florida. She was described as “wise, tough, alligator skinned with a penetrating pair of eyes that could fry eggs.” She left a tradition for others to live up to as she ‘produced excellence.’
Upon retirement, Estelle and Jim moved to Vero Beach, Fla. After time there they decided to head back to the Midwest and moved to Monroe, WI. In 2001 Estelle and Jim built a community with church friends and neighbors filled with faith and lots of laughter.
Jim passed away in 2014. Estelle continued her close relationships with people and meeting many new people along the way. She was a regular at St. Victors Catholic Church and all who knew her looked for her in her pew at daily mass. Estelle easily made friends and supported many through good times and bad. Estelle lived her Catholic faith daily. She will be missed.
Estelle is survived by many friends, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerome Muth Jr., and her husband James.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Chahm Gahng officiating. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will precede the mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund will be established for St. Victor Catholic Church.
