All persons arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The following incidents occurred on Saturday, March 7, 2020:
Felony Fleeing an Officer / OWI Arrest:
At approximately 3:13 a.m., a Green County Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for Operating Left of Center in the W3800 block of CTH W in the Town of Exeter. Upon the Deputy attempting to conduct the traffic stop, the vehicle fled from the Deputy and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle continued to flee from the Deputy at a high rate of speed and turned off its lights. The pursuit entered the Village of New Glarus, where the vehicle failed to stop at a Stop Sign. The pursuit then entered Dane County. The vehicle then entered private property located in the 50 block of Peerless Rd, New Glarus, WI, in Dane County. The vehicle drove down a field access drive and the occupants fled from the vehicle on foot. The pursuit lasted approximately 8 miles.
The driver of the vehicle was located and identified as Austin S. Kempfer, 20, Monticello, WI. Investigation resulted in Kempfer being arrested for Knowingly Flee an Officer (Felony) and for Operate While under the Influence (alcohol) – 1st Offense. Kempfer was cited for Reckless Driving – Endangering Safety, Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed, Operate Left of Center, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Operate without Required Lamps Lights, Violate Absolute Sobriety Law, and Possession of Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle.
Kempfer was incarcerated in the Green County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Belleville Police Department assisted the Green County Sheriff’s Office with the incident.
Traffic Crime:
At approximately 11:52 a.m., Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for Speeding in the N6800 block of STH 104 in the Town of Albany. Investigation resulted in the driver, Deanna M. Hoffman, 33, Madison, WI, being cited for Operate after Revocation and Failure to Install an Interlock Ignition Device, both traffic crimes. Hoffman was also cited for Speeding. Hoffman was released pending a court appearance.
