Clarence J. Sniff, age 98, of Monroe, died Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Monroe Health Services. Clarence was born on August 8, 1921 in Monica, Illinois, the son of Clarence C. and Ethel (Hill) Sniff. Clarence entered the U.S. Army in 1942 serving in North Africa, Southern Italy, and Sicily. He was honorably discharged in 1948 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He married Enza M. Massaro on March 10, 1946 in Recale, Italy. Clarence was proud to be a lifetime dairy farmer. He farmed in Wayne Township, Lafayette County, from 1959 until 1996. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in South Wayne and a former member of the Gratiot V.F.W. Post #9692. He will be fondly remembered as a man that always helped others during WWII and the years that followed.
He is survived by four children, Dotti Sniff of Bradenton, FL, Richard (Lynne) Sniff of Browntown, Ron (Janet) Sniff of Darlington, and Dennis (Deb) Sniff of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren, Tim (Kat), Jonathan, Patrick, Kimberly, Daniel, and Matthew Sniff; a great granddaughter, Sutton Noelle Sniff; a brother, William Sniff of Baraboo; and a sister, Betty (Jerry) Olson of DeForest. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Enza, on May 15, 2007; a brother, Gene Sniff; a sister, Helen Stone; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Sniff.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date in Eastside Cemetery in Dodgeville. A memorial fund will be established in Clarence’s name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
