At 6:03pm on 4/20/2020, the Monroe Fire Department responded to the 800 block of 17th street for a gas leak. Car-11 arrived on scene within 4 minutes of the page by dispatch and assumed command.
A quick assessment found that a large tree branch had fallen due to strong winds. The tree branch knocked down power lines leading to one residence and damaged a gas meter at another residence.
Firefighters from Car 10, Squad 6, Engine 2, Squad 5, and Brush 4 were able establish a safe perimeter, evacuate nearby residents, and control the gas leak within 19 minutes of the initial call for help.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 1 hour. All residents were allowed to return to their homes. There were no injuries reported.
