On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at approximately 1:57 p.m., the Green County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a report that two armed individuals had stolen a Chevrolet Equinox from a residence near the intersection of State Highway 39 and County Trunk J in York Township. Deputies along with members of the Wisconsin State Patrol and New Glarus Police responded to the area and secured the scene. The vehicle had left the scene, it is believed to have traveled to the Madison area and has not been recovered as of the time of this report.
Neither the two male suspects or the vehicle owner/complainant were Green County residents and their reasoning for being at the York Township home are unclear as of the time of this report. Detectives do believe that the vehicle theft was a targeted event, that the suspects left the area and there is no danger to the Green County community. They are evaluating conflicting information from witnesses and the vehicle owner and the incident remains under investigation.
