On Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at approximately 6:47 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Green County. At approximately 7:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office began to receive 911 calls reporting damage southwest of the City of Monroe.
Deputies, Monroe and Browntown Fire Department personnel and Green County Emergency Management were dispatched to the area and located numerous locations where trees were blocking roads, power lines down and damage to numerous outbuildings at a number of rural properties. A barn was collapsed at a farm on County Trunk B and a large shed destroyed along County Trunk P. Alliant Energy responded to the area to repair power lines and Clarno Township and Green County Highway Department personnel responded to remove downed trees that were blocking roads. No personal injuries were reported and there were no reports of injuries to livestock as of the time of this release.
Additional inspection of the area will be ongoing during the day on Wednesday. Very high winds were reported during the brief severe storm.
